4th Annual CA Tour de Dreams (540 miles from UC Berkeley to UCLA)
Who are the Dream Riders?
Students from all across the nation who come together every year to embark on a 540-mile bike tour known as the California Tour de Dreams. 2012 is the fourth annual Tour de Dreams, predicated on raising scholarships for underrepresented and historically marginalized students. We cycle to raise awareness about the rising cost of higher education and to show students that with a
little creativity, they can achieve their dreams. This is more than a bike ride. This is a political action!

Why Cycle:Because undocumented people are unable to get drivers licenses, our only viable alternatives are public transportation or asking a friend for a ride. Yet, these options are often unreliable. Our bikes symbolize us taking our lives and our transportation into our own hands. We rely on our autonomy and our self-reliance! In addition, through cycling we have also demystified the sport of cycling. We made cycling our own, taking it out of the spectrum of the “Lance Armstrongs” and brought cycling to people of color, the chubby cheeked, the working poor, Womyn, Trans*, LGBT, and male cyclists alike! Our bikes have become an increasingly important aspect to the tour itself, they are the third group of participants: riders, volunteers, and bikes!
